Our History

The Y represents one of the few places in the community where people of different cultures, religions, ethnic origins and income levels come together on an equal footing for the good of all.

Our programs, our membership and our community is open to people of all ages, incomes, religions, races, and abilities. Here’s a timeline of our Y’s rich and growing history:

1869

The YMCA begins convening in Burlington County
1870-Bevery | 1877-Mt. Holly | 1892-Palmyra-Riverton

1905

Our Y became officially incorporated in the State of New Jersey

1906

Helped co-found YMCA Camp Ockanickon

1927

The men at our Y began the Moorestown Y’s Men Service Club, which today is known as the Y Service Club

1928

Our Y began offering Indian Guides and Princesses (Adventure Guides) to fathers and sons/daughters throughout Burlington County

1976

YMCA moves into Moorestown Community House

1991

Mt. Laurel YMCA opens

2000

Burlington-Riverfront YMCA opens

2008

Assume responsibility for our Y to serve Camden County

2011

Our Y’s name changed to YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties
