The Y has been America's leading swim instructor for more than 100 years.

We provide recreational and specialty aquatics programs for all ages and abilities, including parent-child classes, group swim lessons for preschool and youth, programs for kids and adults with special needs, swim teams, water exercise, therapy, water safety and rescue classes.

PARENT/CHILD | 6 mos - 3½ yrs 
Shrimp/Kipper | 6-18 months
This class is an introduction to basic water skills in a positive environment. Building independence and starting to move in water. Students begin to develop skills through repetition.

Inia/Perch 12-36 months
Children will learn an understanding of safety through games and songs. Start to explore water and to propel themselves with instructional aids and learning repetitive swimming skills and independence movements.

Tadpole | 2½-3½ years
This class bridges the gap between the Parent/Child classes and our Preschool program. Children are introduced to swimming with their parents in a structured class environment. Guided by the instructor each parent becomes an instructor. Children work on kicking, paddling, breathing and body position.
PRESCHOOL | 3-5 yrs 
Pike | Beginner
This level is for the beginner (child can not swim on own more than 10 feet, may be fearful of water). Emphasis is on adjustment to group situation and water acclimation, and developing independent movement in the water on front, side, and back with and without floatation devices. Ratio: 1:6

Eel | Intermediate
Student has progressed from Pike level by instructor.
This is an advanced beginner level. The child is comfortable in water can swim 10 yards with flotation and 5 feet without. The child can also perform a front and back float. Ratio: 1:6

Ray | Advanced
Student has progressed from Eel level by instructor. This is an intermediate level. (Child is relaxed in water and can swim 25 yards with flotation on their front, back and side, and can swim 15 feet on their own). Ratio: 1:6

Starfish | Advanced
Student has progressed from Ray level by instructor. Child can swim 20 yards in most strokes (front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke). Child will increase endurance in all strokes and start learning advanced level skills. Ratio: 1:6

YOUTH | 6-12 yrs 

Polliwog | Beginner
This is a beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices and floating. Ratio: 1:6

Guppy | Advanced Beginner
This advanced beginner level is for children that can swim one length of the pool on their front, back and side for 25 yards. Ratio: 1:6

Minnow | Intermediate
Student has progressed from Guppy level by instructor. This intermediate level is for children who can swim 25 yards of Front Crawl, Backstroke, Elementary Backstroke and the basics of Breaststroke and Sidestroke. The child will become proficient in Breaststroke and Sidestroke. Ratio: 1:6

Fish | Advanced
Student has progressed from Minnow level by instructor. This advanced level is for children who can swim 25 yards in most strokes. (Front Crawl, Backstroke, Elementary Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke and the dolphin kick for Butterfly). Ratio: 1:8

Flying Fish | Advanced
Student has progressed from Fish level by instructor. At this advanced level, students should be able to swim 50 yards of Front Crawl, Backstroke, Sidestroke, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke and 25 yards Butterfly with fins. Ratio: 1:8

TEEN/ADULT | Ages 13+ yrs
Teen/Adult | Beginner Intermediate
Swim lessons are for individuals with different ability levels. We work with those who are beginners up to advanced swimmers who need stroke refinement. Classes are taught at your ability level, and we work toward the goals of the swimmer.
